A scene markedly different from that portrayed in reports by media outlets on neighbouring Kos was recorded today, Thursday, 10 September 2026, at the Port of Kalymnos, as the island’s waste was being transported to the Kos sanitary landfill.
The specialised ENACT vehicles carrying the waste appeared clean and well maintained, with no visible liquid leakage or scattered refuse. No unpleasant odours or other disturbance affecting passengers or the operation of the vessel were observed at the port.
Notably, several passengers remained on the upper deck, directly above the area where the trucks were parked, calmly enjoying the view of the sea and the harbour as the vessel prepared to depart.
The scene recorded in Kalymnos contrasts with claims circulated by media outlets on Kos regarding the transportation of the island’s waste. At least during this particular departure on 10 September, none of the problems described in those reports was evident.
The proper and safe transportation of waste is a matter of particular importance for both environmental protection and public health. However, the situation must be reported accurately, without exaggeration or the creation of impressions that are not supported by what is actually observed on the ground.
