Following Contamination Concerns
Michalis Lelekis, president of the Board of Directors of the Kalymnos Municipal Water and Sewerage Company (DEYAK), and General Manager Diamantis Lazaris have reassured the public that the island’s mains water is safe.
Their statement followed a wave of concern on social media over reports of possible water contamination.
According to their remarks, an inspection team from the Regional Public Health Directorate detected an organic load in the water. The network subsequently underwent shock chlorination, while all procedures required under the relevant safety protocol were followed.
They also noted that samples from the island’s water network are tested at least once every two months as part of the regular monitoring of water quality.
Through their public statement, the DEYAK representatives sought to reassure residents, stressing that all prescribed procedures had been implemented and that the mains water is safe.
