Three days of essential supplies and a plan for disrupted services are at the heart of the British government’s “Be Ready” campaign. The initiative encourages households to prepare for emergencies, including severe weather and cyberattacks, that could interrupt everyday life.
Recommended supplies include bottled water, long-life food requiring no cooking or refrigeration, and cash in case electronic payments or ATMs become unavailable. The checklist also includes a torch, spare batteries, a radio, a charged power bank, essential medication and first-aid supplies.
Launched on October 22, 2026, the campaign will develop over three years. The government says household preparedness can ease pressure on emergency responders, allowing them to prioritise people who need additional support.
Households are encouraged to build their supplies gradually, according to their circumstances. Detailed guidance and a downloadable checklist are available on the official “Be Ready” website.
