Parliamentary Intervention Regarding Freight Fare Hikes to the Islands
Through a Parliamentary Reference addressed to the Minister of Maritime Affairs & Island Policy, Mr. Vassilis Kikilias, I requested the immediate re-evaluation of the recent increases in ferry transport fares for freight vehicles, particularly those serving the smaller islands of the Dodecanese.
🔹 These increases risk further burdening the already high cost of living for our fellow islanders.
🔹 While compliance with European environmental directives is important, it must not disproportionately impact island residents.
I support the intervention of the President of the Dodecanese Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Yiannis Pappou, and I call on the Ministry to exhaust every possibility to ensure that island entrepreneurship and daily life remain sustainable.
