A weekend of creativity, art, education and cultural activities awaits visitors at the Kalymnos Cultural Center on June 6–7, during the Creation Festival “The Sponge… Differently!”.
Designed for both children and adults, the festival offers a variety of hands-on workshops inspired by Kalymnos’ rich sponge-diving heritage, the sea and artistic expression. Participation is based on a voluntary contribution, and reservations can be made by calling +30 697 871 4010.
The program features creative workshops in painting, clay modeling, sponge-inspired crafts, theatre games and inclusive activities, led by artists, educators and local community groups.
A highlight of the festival will be the screening of the award-winning film “The Teacher Who Promised the Sea”, based on the true story of Spanish teacher Antoni Benaiges. The screening will take place on Friday, June 6, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the support of the educational group “To Skasiarcheio.”
Visitors will also be able to enjoy the exhibition “Stories of the Sea” by painter and illustrator Achilleas Razis, presented throughout the two-day event.
The festival is organized by the 3rd Primary School of Kalymnos, Lolekiva, and the Municipality of Kalymnos, with the support of local businesses and sponsors.
