SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance has called on the Greek government to respond to a Wall Street Journal report concerning U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle and Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou.
In a statement, the party points to an alleged conversation between the two last March. Citing the newspaper’s account, SYRIZA says Guilfoyle made a remark suggesting that what had happened to another government could also happen in Greece. The party interprets the remark as a threat and asks the government and prime minister to clarify whether the exchange took place. That interpretation is SYRIZA’s allegation, not an established finding. ΣΥΡΙΖΑ-ΠΣ
SYRIZA also links its questions to the Vertical Gas Corridor, which is intended to carry liquefied natural gas imported through Greece further into the region. It is asking the government to explain its support for the project in light of the newspaper’s reporting on the ambassador’s contacts with business figures involved in energy deals.
