18th TEE Dodecanese – Mugla Chamber of Architects Meeting in Kalymnos: “Vertical Topographies”
Under the auspices of the Technical Chamber of Greece – Dodecanese Section (TEE), the 18th Joint Meeting of the TEE Dodecanese and the Chamber of Architects of Mugla, Turkey is being held in Kalymnos from October 3 to 13, 2025, titled:
“Vertical Topographies: Inhabitation and Economy in Coastal and Island Landscapes.”
The event is sponsored by the Prefecture of Kalymnos and the Municipality of Kalymnos.
This long-standing international collaboration brings together Greek and Turkish architects and academics, fostering dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding through the lens of architecture.
Since October 3, architects from both countries have been taking part in workshops at the Kalymnos Reading Hall, exploring the intersections between island morphology, mobility networks, and local economic dynamics. The main conference will be held October 10–12, with participants departing on October 13.
During the press conference, attendees included Sakis Tsikouris, President of the Permanent Committee of Kalymnos (TEE), Theodora Galaziou, Selgun Turkoz from the Mugla Organizing Committee, Mayor of Kalymnos Giannis Mastrokoukos, and Deputy Governor Manolis Mousellis.
Speakers emphasized the goal of the meeting: to exchange scientific ideas, document local particularities, and develop proposals for sustainable development based on each area’s history, geomorphology, and socioeconomic context.
Mayor Mastrokoukos highlighted the practical fieldwork aspect of the initiative, while Deputy Governor Mousellis stressed the importance of tangible solutions, particularly to housing challenges faced by the island.
Beyond its academic value, this event acts as a bridge of culture and science between two nations sharing common roots in the Aegean, underscoring the need for sustainable growth that respects both natural and cultural heritage.
