Aegean Regatta 2025 Sets Sail with 64 Yachts Across the Aegean Sea
On Monday morning, the yachts participating in the Aegean Regatta 2025 will set off from Myrina, Lemnos, marking the beginning of an exciting journey across the beautiful Aegean Sea.
A total of 64 boats with over 500 sailors from eight different countries are taking part in this international offshore sailing race. The event is organized by the General Secretariat for the Aegean and Island Policy of the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, in collaboration with the Offshore Racing Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation.
Since its inception in 2001, the Aegean Regatta has aimed to bring Greek and international sailors closer to the Aegean Sea and its island communities, promoting lesser-known destinations and offering a boost to local economies—a goal it has successfully fulfilled year after year.
Babis Anitsakis, President of the coordinating Mytilene Sailing Club, stated:
“The Aegean Regatta 2025, the largest offshore sailing race organized by the General Secretariat for the Aegean and Island Policy, the Offshore Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation, and sailing clubs from the Eastern Aegean, sets sail. 64 boats from Greece and abroad are ready to share the joy of sailing, camaraderie, and healthy competition, while connecting with local communities. Lemnos, Agios Efstratios, Plomari, and Mytilene have all embraced the Aegean Regatta 2025. Thank you. As a competitor myself, I can’t wait for the start.”
Marianna Douka, President of co-organizing club LOIATH Mytilene and representative of World Sailing, emphasized:
“As President of LOIATH and a World Sailing representative, I am honored to once again co-organize the Aegean Regatta—an internationally recognized institution. Our club supports media coverage, promotional production, and other support actions to ensure a smooth race. Having experienced the Regatta from multiple roles—organizer, racer, and race committee member—I know that teamwork, unity, and love for sailing are the values that ensure its ongoing success.”
Regatta Route and Program
Some yachts have already arrived in Myrina, where the Opening Ceremony will take place on Sunday night. On Monday morning, the fleet sets course for Agios Efstratios, followed by Plomari and finally Mytilene, where the Regatta concludes on Saturday, August 30, with the Closing Ceremony.
