A significant development has been recorded regarding the long-standing issue of coastal erosion at Kantouni–Linaria beaches in Kalymnos, according to a statement by Irini Govatsou, President of the Kantouni–Linaria Association.
As she noted, “a step has been taken toward resolving the issue of coastal erosion at Kantouni–Linaria beaches and beyond,” highlighting that recent developments create the conditions for meaningful intervention.
Following the severe weather events that heavily affected the area during the winter and the declaration of Kalymnos in a state of emergency, the Municipality is now in a position to proceed with restoring the damages, having secured the necessary funding.
Within this context, the long-standing issue of beach erosion is also being addressed. According to Govatsou, the first substantial step toward its resolution is the funding of the required studies. These studies are expected to be carried out by the University of the Aegean, with the mediation of Mr. Giorgos Roussos, a member of the association.
This development raises expectations for a more comprehensive and scientifically grounded approach to tackling coastal erosion—an issue that affects both the natural environment and the local economy of the area.
