Next Generation Takes the Lead in Recycling
THESSALONIKI – Marking World Environment Day, ANAKEM S.A., Greece’s largest collective alternative management system for construction and demolition waste, placed environmental education at the center of its sustainability initiatives, encouraging young people to embrace the principles of the circular economy.
During a two-day environmental event organized by the Municipality of Thessaloniki at the Rose Garden on the city’s waterfront, primary school students and beneficiaries of the “O Sotir” Center for People with Disabilities participated in hands-on activities and interactive educational games hosted by the company.
Through the initiative, participants learned that construction and demolition waste is not merely discarded material but a valuable resource that can be recycled and reused in new construction projects and modern infrastructure works.
ANAKEM Chairman and CEO Elias Dimitriadis stressed the importance of investing in younger generations, noting that children are increasingly aware of environmental challenges and can play a key role in shaping more sustainable behaviors within society.
The company also supported a beach-cleaning initiative at Psakoudia Beach, where its representatives joined students in cleaning the coastline and promoting recycling awareness, reinforcing ANAKEM’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.
Through its educational program “Let’s Put Construction Waste in Its Place,” ANAKEM continues to bring experiential learning into schools, helping students understand the practical value of responsible waste management and the circular economy.
With a nationwide network of more than 250 recycling facilities and the ability to recycle up to 95 percent of construction and demolition waste materials, ANAKEM remains one of the leading forces advancing circular economy practices in Greece.
