Watching the interviews with Mr. Mavros and Mr. Diakomichalis fills me with worry and fear for the future of my beloved homeland.
The facts they presented are alarming: a municipal enterprise that has not submitted financial statements since ’23 and is now in immediate danger; ANEK losing valuable revenue due to negligence; attempts to exclude political opponents; manipulation of the media with only a couple of exceptions; and a string of other mistakes by people who can charitably be called unfit to govern.
Mr. Galouzis, Mr. Diakomichalis, Mr. Mavros, Mr. Houlis — you have an obligation to those who honored you with their votes and to all Kalymnians around the world to find common ground and give a public interview together for the COMMON GOOD. I believe the media are failing in their sacred duty to inform, having become little more than press offices for the municipal administration (thankfully with one or two exceptions). Inform the citizens IMMEDIATELY about where we are headed and where we are likely to end up.
I know consensus is not a usual trait of Kalymnian politicians, but look at this pragmatically: one of you will almost certainly lead this place after the next elections, and it will not be pleasant to face the wreckage. Be sure that such a move would benefit everyone — citizens are exhausted by toxicity and rivalry.
Do it for yourselves, for us, and for those who will come after.
