Eirini Chalkiti presents strategic development proposal for Kalymnos at Dodecanese Chamber meeting
A comprehensive proposal for the creation of a Coordinated Framework for Tourism and Business Development in Kalymnos was presented by Chamber Council member Eirini Chalkiti during the meeting of the Dodecanese Chamber of Commerce held on May 23, 2026, on the island of Kalymnos. The proposal focused on establishing a stable cooperation and strategic planning mechanism aimed at sustainable development, strengthening local entrepreneurship, and promoting Kalymnos as a model year-round alternative tourism destination.
The proposal calls for the Dodecanese Chamber of Commerce to take the initiative in creating a coordinated development mechanism that will bring together the Municipality, Region, local authorities, professional associations, tourism businesses, and the island’s productive sectors.
Its main objective is to position Kalymnos as a model of sustainable and alternative island development by capitalizing on its internationally recognized climbing tourism, maritime heritage, authenticity, and strong local entrepreneurship.
The proposal is based on three key pillars:
- Preparation of a comprehensive Master Plan for Tourism and Business Development, focusing on extending the tourism season, developing alternative tourism sectors, promoting gastronomy and local products, and utilizing digital tools and investment opportunities.
- Creation of a permanent cooperation and monitoring framework to coordinate actions, secure funding opportunities, and promote joint development initiatives.
- Strengthening the Chamber’s local presence in Kalymnos through the enhancement of its local office to support small businesses, young entrepreneurs, digital transition initiatives, and the international promotion of the “Kalymnos” brand.
