“Critical Wanderings in Literature” is the title of the tenth book by poet and author Daphne Maria Vouvalli, published by Koralli Editions (2025). This time, the volume features short essays and book reviews she chose to write on the works of distinguished contemporary writers. The book was presented on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the Panhellenic Union of Writers (P.E.L.) in Athens.
During a warm and engaging event, the book and its author were discussed by Dr. Konstantinos Bouras — poet, theatre scholar, translation scholar and critic — Anthoula Daniil, PhD in Philology, author and literary critic, and Leandros Polenakis, writer and theatre critic.
“In the difficult paths of our dark era, as we move forward, the first thing we must wholeheartedly embrace — if we wish to survive and continue to live with dignity and our heads held high — is culture. It is the sibling of peace,” the author emphasized in her speech. Referring to Daphne Vouvalli’s Kalymnian origin, Konstantinos Bouras praised “the beauty of Kalymnos and its people,” which he had the opportunity to witness firsthand during a previous visit to the island.
Anthoula Daniil supported her presentation with pointed examples from the book’s critical analyses, while Leandros Polenakis — widely regarded as the most prominent living theatre critic in Greece today — underlined that through Vouvalli’s texts he primarily recognizes the poet within her.
The presentation was accompanied by cello music performed by distinguished Rhodes-born artist Despoina Spanou, and the event concluded with light refreshments.
