A particularly prestigious distinction was awarded to the students Katerina Elli Vogelzang, Maria Sergiou, Nikolas Karantanis, Emmanouel Leonardos Vogelzang, Eleni Dimitropoulou and Kyriaki Kounenaki, who were selected as scholarship recipients of the Kalymnos and Darwin Language Scholarship 2025 through their participation in the programme. All participants in the programme were awarded the scholarship.
The certificates of commendation were presented by Greek-Australian entrepreneur Ioannis Halikos at the Municipal Hall on 24 December 2025.
The announcement was made through an official letter from the Office of the Lord Mayor of the City of Darwin, signed by Kon Vatskalis. The scholarship, valued at AUD 500, aims to support the study of the English language and related professional development activities.
The programme is part of the Kalymnos–Darwin Sister Cities relationship, established in 1982, and seeks to strengthen language skills, promote cross-cultural understanding and reinforce community ties between the two communities. In his letter, the Lord Mayor congratulates the students on their commitment and effort, wishing them continued success in their studies and future endeavours.
A modest scholarship in financial terms, but rich in symbolism: languages build bridges—and this bridge stretches from Kalymnos all the way to the other side of the world.
