Diakomichalis Calls on Kalymnos Mayor to Revoke Historic School Venue Approval
The leader of the “Kalymnos Power for Progress” municipal faction, Dimitris Diakomichalis, has called on Mayor Ioannis Mastrokoukos to immediately revoke the decision allowing the grounds of the historic Nikiforeio Junior and Senior High School to be used for a private entertainment event.
In a formal letter addressed to the mayor, Diakomichalis states that he became aware of an extrajudicial notice submitted by the Kalymnos Association of Restaurant and Catering Professionals concerning the allocation of the school premises to Queen Bee Music for the installation of seating areas and entertainment activities.
He describes the decision as unacceptable, arguing that a historic educational institution should not be transformed into a nightlife venue. He urges both the mayor and the deputy mayor to withdraw the approval immediately, warning that otherwise he will report the matter to the Regional Director of Education for the South Aegean, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, and the Minister of Education.
In a postscript, Diakomichalis notes that the concert featuring popular Greek singer Lena Zevgara is being organized by the same company that has been awarded the Municipality of Kalymnos’ cultural events program, highlighting what he considers a matter of public interest.
