The Union of Doctors of the Leros General Hospital (E.I.THEL.) has issued a strong warning about the dangerous lack of medical staff on the island. The hospital is currently operating without a cardiologist, and there are also serious shortages in other critical specialties such as nephrology and radiology.
The Dialysis Unit is barely functioning safely. In just five days, six emergency airlifts were required, highlighting the urgency of the situation. The union condemns these deficiencies as the result of ongoing governmental neglect and not random difficulties. E.I.THEL. demands immediate and permanent hiring of essential medical staff, full laboratory and imaging services, and insists on public, free, and safe healthcare for all residents.
They reject temporary fixes and criticize the normalization of airlifts as a substitute for proper medical care.
