Major Boost for Swimming in Kalymnos: Eight Competition Starting Blocks Donated to Municipal Pool
A significant development for aquatic sports in Kalymnos has been announced by Proteas Nautical Athletic Club, following the donation of eight competition starting blocks to the Municipality of Kalymnos through a generous contribution of swimming equipment from the Hellenic Olympic Committee.
The donation is the result of the club’s active presence in sporting events throughout the year and the efforts of coach Michalis Glynatsis, whose request for equipment support was approved by the Hellenic Olympic Committee. The equipment originated from the Zappeion swimming facility in Athens, which is currently undergoing extensive renovation works.
The eight starting blocks have already arrived on the island and are expected to be installed at the municipal swimming pool, further upgrading the only Olympic-size swimming facility in the Dodecanese.
Club officials emphasize that the new equipment will strengthen Kalymnos’ ability to host official swimming competitions, building on the success of the Dodecanese Swimming Games organized on the island in recent years.
Proteas expressed its gratitude to the Hellenic Olympic Committee and is awaiting the Municipality’s approval of the donation, pledging that the remaining equipment will also be utilized to support the continued development of aquatic sports in Kalymnos.
