He argues that demographic decline is not a natural process but the result of political choices, linking social pressure to low wages, high living costs, and the erosion of the welfare state. He also highlights a broader crisis of institutions and accountability.
The article calls for a comprehensive progressive agenda, including support for farmers’ income, lower production costs, tax relief, stronger public health and education, housing policies, and taxation of excess profits, stressing that a change of course is both a social necessity and a national interest.
