Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas, speaking in Parliament on the bill transferring OPEKEPE’s responsibilities to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue, stated that what happened at OPEKEPE is an insult to everyone, stressing that illegal actions concern only a few individuals and cannot tarnish an entire political party or the farming community.
He highlighted that honest farmers exist and deserve the subsidies they are entitled to, which is the core aim of the reform. The institutional change ensures a fully transparent and reliable payment system, agreed with the European Commission, and initiates procedures for the recovery of unlawfully obtained subsidies. He concluded by noting that farmers’ problems can only be addressed through dialogue and consensus.
