Investigation Underway
A fire broke out in a forested area of Kalymnos on the evening of Wednesday, July 22, prompting the immediate mobilisation of the island’s firefighting forces.
Nine firefighters from the Kalymnos Volunteer Fire Brigade responded with four fire engines, while a water tanker supplied by the Municipality of Kalymnos also assisted in the operation.
The incident comes during a particularly critical period, as Kalymnos has been placed at fire-risk level 3—classified as high risk—for Thursday, July 23.
The Dodecanese Arson Crimes Investigation Unit has been activated to investigate the circumstances surrounding the outbreak. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Residents and visitors are urged to exercise increased caution and avoid any activity that could potentially spark a fire.
