For more than twelve years, Fr Michael Psaromatis has been actively involved in the Orthodox Mission in the South Pacific, supporting the work of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of New Zealand across Fiji, Tonga and Samoa. Throughout this period, he has witnessed the profound impact of the Mission on children, families and entire communities.
Earlier this year, the mission team of St Demetrios Parish travelled to Fiji, visiting remote villages in Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. The team distributed more than 150 relief packages, food vouchers, school supplies and essential hygiene items. They also visited the children of St Tabitha Orphanage, many of whom rely entirely on the Mission for food, shelter, education and care.
On Sunday, 7 December, St Demetrios Parish will host a fundraising luncheon following the Divine Liturgy. The service will be led by His Eminence Metropolitan Myron of New Zealand, with the blessings of Archbishop Makarios of Australia and Bishop Silouan of Adelaide. His presence is considered a blessing for the community, which continues to support this sacred missionary work.
Community support helps provide food, education, medical assistance, welfare services, outreach visits and basic care to the children and families served by the Mission in the South Pacific.
The organising committee is also seeking auction and raffle prizes for the event. Businesses or individuals able to donate products or vouchers will significantly strengthen the fundraising efforts.
