Giannis Pappas: “Justice must operate independently and in a timely manner”
A wide range of key issues concerning the Dodecanese, foreign policy, the economy, and institutional trust were addressed by New Democracy MP for the Dodecanese, Giannis Pappas, in an interview with “A”.
With a professional background in telecommunications and media, Pappas emphasized that his primary goal remains the support of island communities, particularly the Dodecanese.
On healthcare, he described the funding boost for the “Andreas Papandreou” hospital as crucial, while noting ongoing structural challenges such as staffing shortages and seasonal pressure due to tourism.
Regarding tourism, he expressed cautious optimism, highlighting strong booking trends from major European markets despite geopolitical instability in the Middle East.
On Greek-Turkish relations, Pappas stressed that Greece exercises its sovereign rights independently, while on migration he pointed to the need to combat human trafficking networks.
He also referred to the electricity interconnection project as complex and still under negotiation, and defended the government’s foreign policy as active and effective.
Commenting on the OPEKEPE case, he stated: “Justice, both Greek and European, must do its work independently and on time,” underlining the government’s commitment to transparency.
Finally, he ruled out early elections, reaffirming that they are scheduled for 2027, and acknowledged declining public trust in institutions, stressing the need to strengthen them.
