A major international distinction has been awarded to the island of Kalymnos, which received both Gold and Platinum awards at the Tourism Awards 2026 for the successful organization of the International Climbing Festival 2025.
The festival earned the Gold Award for its excellent organization, while also securing the top Platinum Award, achieving the highest score among all entries, according to the judges’ evaluation.
The achievement is further highlighted by the fact that the South Aegean Region was honored during the event, reinforcing Kalymnos’ leading role in tourism and sports within the region.
The International Climbing Festival, held from October 16 to 19, 2025, attracted participants from dozens of countries, top athletes, and a large number of visitors, bringing Kalymnos back to the forefront of the global climbing community.
This success reflects the outward-looking strategy of the Municipal Authority under Mayor Ioannis Mastrokoukos, who revived the festival after years of absence. Deputy Mayor for Tourism Kalliopi Koutouzi played a key role in coordinating the effort, alongside municipal staff and contributors.
Kalymnos continues to strengthen its reputation as the “Mecca of Climbing,” while preparations are already underway for the 2026 festival, aiming for even greater international impact.
