Given the climatic conditions of our country, heatwaves are a seasonal phenomenon observed during the summer months. For this reason, and taking into account the issuance of Emergency Weather Bulletin No. 3332/2025, which forecasts heatwave conditions from Monday, July 21 to Saturday, July 26, we inform citizens and visitors of the islands of the South Aegean (Cyclades, Dodecanese) to be particularly cautious, to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and to take all necessary self-protection measures against high temperatures — especially vulnerable population groups — to prevent health issues such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke, which may be caused by the prevailing high temperatures.
Specifically in the Dodecanese, temperatures will range from 35°C to 40°C, with peak values expected on Wednesday, July 23.
Recommended measures include:
- Stay in cool, shaded areas away from crowded places. Use air conditioners or fans and avoid heavy physical labor in hot, windless, and humid environments.
- Avoid sunbathing, walking, or running under direct sunlight. Wear hats, sunglasses, and light-colored clothing made of breathable fabrics that help with sweat evaporation. Avoid synthetic materials.
- Consume light meals rich in fruits and vegetables, while limiting fats and food quantities.
- Drink plenty of water and fruit juices. Avoid alcoholic beverages.
- Pay special attention to babies, young children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses to ensure their protection from high temperatures.
