Restoration and Modern Lighting Completed at the District Building
A major restoration project aimed at preserving Kalymnos’ architectural heritage and enhancing the island’s public infrastructure has been successfully completed, with the Regional Unit of Kalymnos announcing the completion of restoration works on sections of the historic District Administration Building.
The project, titled “Restoration of Sections of the Facades of the Kalymnos Regional Unit District Building,” had a total budget of €74,031.26, including VAT, and was implemented by the South Aegean Region. The works focused on repairing deterioration caused by age, protecting the structure from future damage, and improving its overall appearance.
In addition to the facade restoration, a separate funding allocation enabled the modernization of the building’s exterior lighting system. New lighting fixtures have been installed to highlight the architectural character and aesthetic value of the landmark, enhancing its nighttime appearance while also improving safety and functionality in the surrounding area.
The Kalymnos District Building holds significant historical, architectural, and symbolic value for the island, having played an important role in its administrative and social development. Local authorities emphasize that preserving such landmarks is essential for safeguarding the island’s cultural identity and passing it on to future generations.
District Governor Emmanouil Mouselis expressed his gratitude to South Aegean Regional Governor Giorgos Hatzimarkos for his continued support, noting that their cooperation has helped deliver projects that protect public assets, upgrade infrastructure, and address the needs of local communities.
The completion of the project marks another step forward in the modernization of public facilities across Kalymnos, combining heritage preservation with contemporary standards of safety, functionality, and urban aesthetics.
