Minister of Education Sofia Zacharaki met with the President of the Parliamentary Committee on Regions and Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas to discuss the development prospects of regional universities. Mr. Konsolas invited the Minister to participate in a special thematic session of the Committee, with the involvement of university rectors and local stakeholders.
He emphasized that regional universities must be more closely linked to regional development and serve as growth drivers for each region. He highlighted the need for institutional reforms that would strengthen cooperation between universities, central government, local authorities, and regional bodies, enabling universities to play an active role in shaping local development strategies. He also stressed the importance of upgrading regional institutions based on development criteria, transforming them into centers of research and innovation, and modernizing academic programs to better support local economies.
