The Chess Club “Leon Candia” and the Kalymnos Chess Club are organizing the “Kalymnos Christmas Chess Weekend 2025”, which will take place on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 December 2025.
According to the official announcement and tournament regulations, the event includes two separate competitions:

1. Christmas Blitz Open 2025 – Saturday, 27 December 2025
1.1 Tournament System
The tournament will be played using the Swiss system, 7 rounds, in two groups:
- Group A: Open to all ages – FIDE Blitz rated
- Group B: Children up to 12 years old – non-rated
1.2 Time Control
5 minutes + 3 seconds increment per move, starting from move one.
1.3 Schedule
- Confirmation of participation: 17:30 – 18:00
- Pairings for Round 1: 18:00
- Opening ceremony: 18:05
Rounds (25 minutes each):
- Round 1: 18:10 – 18:35
- Round 2: 18:35 – 19:00
- Round 3: 19:00 – 19:25
- Round 4: 19:25 – 19:50
- Round 5: 19:50 – 20:15
- Round 6: 20:15 – 20:40
- Round 7: 20:40 – 21:05
Closing ceremony: 21:15

2. Christmas Rapid Open 2025 – Sunday, 28 December 2025
2.1 Tournament System
Swiss system, 7 rounds, in two groups:
- Group A: Open – FIDE Rapid rated
- Group B: Children up to 12 years – non-rated
2.2 Time Control
10 minutes + 3 seconds per move.
2.3 Schedule
- Confirmation of participation: 09:00 – 09:30
- Pairings for Round 1: 09:40
- Opening ceremony: 09:50
Rounds 1–7:
- Start of Round 1: 10:00
- End of final round: 14:30
Closing ceremony: 15:00
2.4 Prizes (mixed)
Group A:
- 1st place: Cup & Medal
- 2nd place: Medal
- 3rd place: Medal
Group B (up to 12 years):
- 1st place: Cup & Medal
- 2nd place: Medal

3. Tie-break Criteria
- Result among tied players (if all have played each other)
- Buchholz
- Number of wins
- Sonneborn–Berger
4. Entry Fees
- One tournament (Blitz or Rapid): €15 per person
- Both tournaments: €20 per person
Family discount:
The second member of the same family receives 50% off the selected participation package.
Examples:
- One person, Blitz + Rapid → €20
- Two people, Blitz + Rapid → €20 + €10 = €30
- Two people, Blitz only → €15 + €7.50 = €22.50
