The inclusion of key proposals submitted in 2023 by the Kalymnos District to the Dodecanese Development Company (ANDO S.A.) in the new LEADER 2023–2027 programme marks a significant validation of the region’s strategic planning.
According to an official press release, the integration of these proposals into the programme confirms that the priorities identified by local authorities address real and pressing needs of the islands.
The proposals focused on critical issues, including the utilization of existing housing stock to address accommodation shortages, particularly on small islands with populations under 3,100 residents, where there is a lack of housing for students, doctors, and public sector employees.
They also emphasized the strengthening of social initiatives in areas such as sports and culture, as well as support for vulnerable groups.
In addition, the proposals highlighted the promotion of local production – including fisheries, honey, and dairy products – along with traditional activities, while also addressing environmental protection and sustainable management through initiatives aligned with the concept of “green islands.”
The Kalymnos District has stated that it will remain actively involved in all stages of the programme’s implementation, aiming to substantially support local society and the economy.
