From November 3 to 9, 2025, the island of Kalymnos will once again host the European Juniors Tennis Tournament, marking a significant comeback for the island on the European sports map. This high-level competition is expected to attract young athletes from across Europe, reaffirming Kalymnos’ capability to host international sporting events.
This marks a notable return: the same tournament was successfully held on the island from 2021 to 2023, leaving excellent impressions on athletes, coaches, and organizers alike. However, it was removed abruptly due to a decision made solely by the former secretary of the Hellenic Tennis Federation. His approach clashed with the values and collaborative spirit of the local tennis community, leading to a decision widely seen as unjustified.
The recent change in the Federation’s leadership brought about a fresh start. With renewed trust and a shift away from past practices, the new administration reinstated Kalymnos as a host location—recognizing the island’s infrastructure, commitment, and long-standing contribution to the sport.
Importantly, this event is not the result of political maneuvering but of collective effort. Volunteers, sports professionals, and local institutions worked together methodically to bring back a tournament that rightfully belongs to Kalymnos.
The benefits are many: from welcoming athletes from across Europe to boosting local tourism and promoting the island on the international stage. Most importantly, this tournament sends a clear message: sport unites, inspires, and transcends personal agendas.
Kalymnos is ready. With passion, professionalism, and a deep love for sport, the island is proving itself—not just in words, but in action.
