One of Kalymnos’ most cherished and authentic traditions will come alive once again in the Kassonia area, where residents and visitors are invited to celebrate the traditional custom known as “T’ Ai Giannou t’ Atsali”, a unique event deeply rooted in the island’s cultural heritage.
The celebration will begin at 8:00 p.m., featuring the lighting of the traditional Klidonas bonfires, around which people of all ages will gather to take part in a ritual that has been passed down through generations.
Associated with the Feast of Saint John the Baptist, the custom symbolizes strength, health, and good fortune. Participants traditionally leap over the flames, while the ceremonial use of the heated stone known locally as “atsali” remains one of the most distinctive elements of the event.
Organizers are inviting everyone to join an evening filled with music, community spirit, and cultural pride, celebrating a tradition that continues to connect past and present.
