Condolence Message by Katerina Emmanouil on the passing of Giannis Chalikos
With deep emotion and respect, I express my sincere condolences on the passing of Kalymnos’ great benefactor, Ioannis Chalikos.
Ioannis Chalikos was a man who knew only how to give — to offer generously, with love, consistency, and a profound sense of responsibility toward his place of origin, Kalymnos, which he truly cherished. His social contribution was invaluable, leaving an indelible mark on the local community and on his fellow islanders.
One of the most moving moments during my time in Kalymnos was my personal meeting with him, as well as the handover of the Chalikeion to the Kalymnos Hospital. It was a landmark contribution for Kalymnos and its people, one that substantially strengthened the island’s healthcare sector and stands as a work of lasting value — a living symbol of his love for people and for his homeland.
He was a man who knew how to love without ulterior motives, who genuinely cared for his homeland and its people. A true noble benefactor.
Words are unnecessary. The void he leaves behind is irreplaceable.
The photograph that follows captures a personal moment of responsibility and honor, from my signing as Administrator of the Kalymnos Hospital, during the handover of the Chalikeion — a project that will forever remind us of the greatness of his soul and his generosity.
My warm thoughts, strength, and sincere condolences go to his family and loved ones.
