Statement on March 7 – Anniversary of the Dodecanese Union with Greece
March 7 is a day of deep historical memory and pride for all Dodecanesians. We honor the long struggle of our islanders who kept the Greek identity and the vision of freedom alive until the historic moment of Union.
Many great figures from our region led this struggle. Among them was the Kalymnian fighter Skevos Zervos, who through his actions, faith, and dedication to the homeland made a significant contribution to preserving national spirit and to the struggle for the Union of the Dodecanese with mother Greece.
The history of the Dodecanese is a history of struggles, sacrifices, and dignity. It proves that our islanders, even in difficult times, never abandoned their identity, their values, or their hope.
Today, while honoring those who fought for the freedom of our islands, we have a duty to continue the effort for strong and vibrant islands — for a Dodecanese with genuine support for island communities, with modern infrastructure, and with opportunities for the people who live and create here.
The best way to honor the struggles of our ancestors is to ensure that the Dodecanese remain strong, vibrant, and active contributors to the future of our country.
Best wishes to the Dodecanese.
Best wishes to Greece.
The Regional Governor of Kalymnos
