Kalymnos: Standing by Children with Disabilities and Their Families!
Last week, the Coordinator of the Secretariat for Children’s Rights of New Democracy for the Dodecanese, Ms. Katerina Emmanouil, visited the Day Care and Creative Activities Center for Persons with Disabilities (KDAP AmEA) of Kalymnos, in a meaningful meeting that once again allowed her to witness the invaluable work carried out by the Parents and Guardians Association for Persons with Disabilities “Agios Panteleimon”.
During her visit, Ms. Emmanouil toured the facilities of the Center, including the workshop rooms, administrative offices, and the new Daily Living Structure, which was completed with funding from the South Aegean Region.
She also held discussions with the President, Ms. Aikaterini Vardaouli, and the Secretary and social worker, Ms. Kalliopi Gavalas, regarding the operation of the Center and was informed of several important matters.
The Center currently serves 25 individuals, with the potential to accommodate even more.
The mission of the Center is to systematically support persons with disabilities and their families through educational, psychosocial, and creative activities that empower and promote inclusion.
The Center hosts Weaving, Pottery, Decorative Arts, Fine Arts, and Handicrafts Workshops, while—with proper staffing—it also offers services such as:
- Music education & choir
- Computer training
- Exercise & care for individuals with severe disabilities
- Medical support
- Theatrical expression & creativity
- Rest room facilities
As the Secretariat for Children’s Rights, we strive to support every structure that offers meaningful care, promotes equality, and ensures a supportive environment for every child.
