Launch of the Local Urban Plan (LUP) for Kalymnos – A Milestone for the Island’s Future
The Municipality of Kalymnos has officially initiated the process for drafting the Local Urban Plan (LUP), which will cover Kalymnos, as well as the inhabited islands of Pserimos and Telendos. This strategic project marks a turning point for the development, organization, and sustainability of the region.
On Saturday, September 6, 2025, the first working meeting was held at the Town Hall, initiated by Mayor Giannis Mastrokoukos. It brought together representatives of the contracting companies “ROIKOS S.A. – ENVECO S.A.,” engineers from the Technical Chamber of Kalymnos, municipal technical services, and administrative officials, aiming to align technical capacities and development planning.
After lengthy preparatory procedures, the project is now entering its final phase, with the full support of Kalymnos’ technical community standing behind the municipal authority.
The LUP is a crucial tool for rational spatial planning. It defines land uses, building regulations, infrastructure, protected zones, and climate change adaptation measures. It provides a clear regulatory framework that avoids delays and misinterpretations in the implementation of local projects.
Mayor Mastrokoukos stated:
“The Local Urban Plan marks a real breakthrough in Kalymnos’ history. From day one, we committed to seizing every development opportunity. With consistency, stability, and collaboration — especially with the Permanent Committee of the Technical Chamber and the island’s technical community — we are shaping a modern and sustainable framework for our future.”
