A major development for property owners in small settlements has emerged following the parliamentary intervention of Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas. His initiative prompted the government to prepare legislation that will safeguard urban planning rights in settlements with fewer than 2,000 inhabitants, thus protecting property values. Konsolas had highlighted the issue since April, warning that a recent Presidential Decree would strip properties under 2,000 sq.m. of their building rights.
The law would have reclassified them as non-buildable plots, despite their owners having paid taxes and carried out legal transactions based on previous urban boundaries. The issue was also discussed during his recent meeting with the Minister of Environment, Mr. Stavros Papastavrou, leading to a balanced legislative solution.
