Countdown Begins for the 2026 LUX Audience Award Winner
Only a few days remain before the next winner of the LUX Audience Award is selected—Europe’s largest public film prize. This unique award stands out globally, as citizens vote alongside their elected representatives, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), to decide the winning film.
Audiences can rate the nominated films until April 12, while also entering a draw for exciting prizes. Among them is a trip to the European Parliament, where winners will attend the Award Ceremony on April 14 and meet the filmmakers in person.
Established in 2007 by the European Parliament, the LUX Audience Award is presented annually in partnership with the European Film Academy, the European Commission (Creative Europe MEDIA programme), and the Europa Cinemas network. Its mission is to support European cinema, promote cultural diversity, and encourage dialogue on contemporary social and political issues.
This year’s nominated films tackle key themes such as democracy, human rights, freedom of expression, women’s and LGBTQ+ rights, mental health, solidarity, and support for vulnerable communities.
The award also has a strong practical dimension: all five nominated films are subtitled in the 24 official EU languages and screened free of charge in hundreds of cinemas across Europe. For the first time, they are also available with subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing, making them even more accessible.
The LUX Award is the only film prize in the world where the final result is determined equally—50% by MEPs and 50% by the public.
