Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas has called for the immediate reinforcement of Rhodes General Hospital with specific medical specialties through temporary transfers, in a new parliamentary intervention addressed to the Minister of Health.
Konsolas highlights that the increased demands during the summer season, combined with the already strained operation of the hospital, make the urgent strengthening of medical staff essential. He notes that while permanent hiring procedures take time, the current needs are immediate and pressing, especially as the tourist season is already underway.
In his intervention, the MP points to specific specialties identified as critical by the hospital administration. These include two internists, two surgeons, two radiologists, as well as general practitioners to ensure adequate staffing of the Emergency Department.
He emphasizes that Rhodes Hospital serves not only the island’s residents but also patients from other Aegean islands. During the summer months, it faces a significant increase in cases due to the thousands of visitors arriving on the island.
Konsolas also underlines the additional challenges caused by retirements and staff departures, which have created serious gaps in key medical specialties.
He calls on the Ministry of Health to take immediate action to ensure the hospital can effectively meet the heightened demands of the season.
