Rhodes Tourism Sector on Alert
Dodecanese Member of Parliament Manos Konsolas has called for urgent action to address significant delays in the issuance of fire safety certificates for hotels, tourist accommodations and businesses in Rhodes, raising the issue through a parliamentary intervention addressed to the competent ministries.
According to Konsolas, understaffing at the Rhodes Fire Service has created serious bottlenecks in the review of fire protection studies and the issuance of the certificates required for the legal operation of hotels, tourist accommodations and tourism-related businesses.
The MP notes that many business owners have already completed and submitted the necessary fire safety studies within the prescribed deadlines. However, delays in the administrative process have left a number of businesses facing sanctions and even the risk of operating license revocations through no fault of their own.
Konsolas is calling on the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection to immediately strengthen the Rhodes Fire Service through staff reinforcements and secondments in order to accelerate the approval process and the issuance of pending certificates. At the same time, he urges the Minister of Tourism to refrain from imposing penalties or revoking operating licenses for tourism establishments whose owners have fulfilled all legal obligations and are not responsible for the delays.
The parliamentary initiative comes at a critical time for Rhodes’ tourism industry, with concerns growing that bureaucratic delays could have serious consequences for businesses during the peak summer season.
