Kalymnos and the Dodecanese mourn the loss of a prominent benefactor
The Member of Parliament for the Dodecanese with New Democracy, Ioannis K. Pappas, issued a condolence message following the passing of Giannis Halikos, a man widely associated with generosity and dedication to Kalymnos.
In his statement he said:
“The passing of Giannis Halikos fills Kalymnos and the entire Dodecanese with deep sorrow. A man who associated his name with contribution, hard work and genuine love for our homeland leaves behind an irreplaceable void.
I would like to express my sincere condolences to his family, his wife Kalliopi, his children and all his loved ones.
Giannis Halikos was not only a great benefactor of Kalymnos, but also a man who had deep faith in the potential of his homeland and its people.
For me personally, it was a great honor to share a friendship and a relationship of trust with him throughout these years — a relationship built on a common vision for Kalymnos and the Dodecanese. With clear words, constant interest in the common good and sincere support, he strengthened every effort aimed at the progress of Kalymnos and our islands.
The legacy he leaves behind is heavy but luminous. His example will continue to inspire us and remind us that true love for one’s homeland is proven through actions.
I will always keep a friend in my heart.
May his memory be eternal.”
