Manos Konsolas Proposes Tax Incentives and Funding Program for Traditional Settlements and Listed Buildings
Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas has submitted a parliamentary proposal calling for tax relief and financial incentives for property owners in traditional settlements on islands and mountainous areas, as well as owners of listed heritage buildings.
The proposal was addressed to the Ministers of National Economy and Finance and Environment and Energy, aiming to establish measures that will support the preservation and promotion of Greece’s architectural heritage.
Mr. Konsolas noted that many properties located in traditional settlements — especially in island and mountainous regions — have either been abandoned to deterioration or impose excessive maintenance costs on their owners.
He also highlighted that the current institutional framework includes numerous restrictions and prohibitions, such as limitations on installing solar water heaters or implementing bioclimatic architectural interventions, increasing operational and energy costs for property owners.
The Dodecanese MP presented three key proposals:
- Reduction of the ENFIA property tax for owners of buildings in traditional settlements and listed buildings, based on income criteria.
- Tax deductions for maintenance and restoration expenses related to these properties.
- Creation of a special funding program modeled after Greece’s “Exoikonomo” scheme, dedicated exclusively to maintenance, repair, and restoration works for traditional and listed buildings.
“The State must consider a comprehensive framework of tax and financial incentives in order to make property owners active participants in the protection and promotion of our architectural heritage,” Manos Konsolas stated.
