The Municipal Council of Kalymnos convened an irregular session following an invitation by Mayor Ioannis Mastrokoukos on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at 20:00, in response to the recent tragic accident involving a 60-year-old Czech climber.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the incident that occurred at a climbing site on the island, to take decisions accordingly, and to issue an official position of the Municipal Council. This came after widespread misinformation circulated on social media, which was primarily directed against the Fire Service and the Rescue Team.

Following a constructive discussion and exchange of views, with the participation of local professionals, the Municipal Council unanimously decided to issue official statements aimed at restoring the truth and ensuring responsible public information regarding the circumstances of the accident and the role of the involved services.
