No to the Sudden Closure of ELTA Branches – No to the Further Neglect of Our Islands
How much more degradation can our islands endure? How long will residents, professionals, and especially the elderly, continue to suffer from decisions that ignore their basic needs?
The recent and unannounced decision by the Hellenic Post (ELTA) to permanently close branches in Rhodes (Ialysos, Afantou) and the Cyclades (Oia in Santorini, Filoti in Naxos, Naousa in Paros, Gavrio in Andros, and Antiparos) leaves entire communities without access to essential postal services.
This decision:
- Was made without any public consultation.
- Provides no alternative solutions for affected citizens and businesses.
- Completely disregards the geographical, demographic, and touristic specificities of the islands.
Once again, instead of modernization and support, the state chooses withdrawal and dismantling of critical services.
This is not reform. It is abandonment.
We demand:
- The immediate reversal of the closure decision for ELTA branches in Rhodes and the Cyclades.
- A unified political response from all local representatives to defend the right of islanders to equal public service access.
Postal service is not a luxury – it’s a necessity.
The islands of Greece are not second-class regions.
