Speech of SYRIZA–PS President Socratis Famellos in Parliament (Plenary Session)
During the debate on the draft bill of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance
In a strongly worded parliamentary speech, Socratis Famellos, leader of SYRIZA-PS, called for the resignation of the Mitsotakis government, declaring:
“If you don’t resign soon, the Greek people will make you resign.”
Key points from his address:
- He criticized the government’s one-sided foreign policy, arguing it isolates Greece and ignores international initiatives like efforts for peace in Gaza and the Middle East.
- Accused the government of shameful silence on the Gaza genocide, undermining both international law and Greece’s credibility.
- Highlighted the ongoing hunger strike of Panos Routsis, father of a Tempi train crash victim, criticizing the state’s failure to respond to his request for a forensic investigation.
- Stressed that Greek households are increasingly impoverished, blaming rising prices in energy, food, and housing on deliberate government choices benefiting the few.
- Denounced the government’s handling of the Recovery and Resilience Fund, saying it became a missed opportunity for real development.
- Opposed the transfer of the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) administration to the privatization superfund, calling it a blow to the city’s stakeholders.
- Accused the government of corruption, favoritism, and scandals involving party cronies and misappropriation of public resources.
He concluded that SYRIZA-PS is the only political force offering credible, fair, and detailed policy proposals, urging citizens to unite for a Progressive Greece.
