On September 27th, 2025 , the “Green Forum” took place in Kalymnos at the Chamber of Commerce hall, co-organized by the Institute of Social Innovation and Cohesion and ANDO.
Participants agreed that recycling on the island is still at a very early stage. The South Aegean Region, with successful examples such as Tilos and Chalki, promotes sustainable development through initiatives like “Just Go Zero”.
A pilot recycling program is proposed to start in smaller island communities like Telendos and Pserimos (Green Island), and then extend to villages surrounding the main town (Green Village), creating model areas of best practices.
The initiative includes educational campaigns in schools and churches, citizen incentives through reduced cleaning fees, and official recognition for participating businesses with “Green Hotel” and “Green Restaurant” certifications.
The Deputy Governor of Kalymnos, Emmanouil Mousellis, emphasized that this proposal is not just theoretical, but a foundation for dialogue and planning toward a cleaner, more sustainable, and participatory future for Kalymnos.
