Τhe LIFE SIP GR Blue program is the fourth strategic LIFE program approved for Greece by the European Commission, aiming at the protection of the marine environment. It will run for eight years with a budget of €15 million, of which €9 million will be funded by the EU and €6 million by the Green Fund.
The program’s goal is to enhance the management of existing marine parks and to establish two new ones, in the Ionian Sea and the Southern Cyclades. It will be implemented under the coordination of the Ministry of Environment, with the participation of 15 partners, including scientific and academic institutions, regional authorities, and NGOs.
LIFE SIP GR Blue focuses on the application of innovative marine protection tools and pilot actions, while supporting the objectives of the EU Green Deal and the Biodiversity Strategy. According to the Minister of Environment, the program represents an important step in strengthening Greece’s institutional and operational capacity in marine policy and environmental governance.
