Kalymnos to Honor Pontic Greek Genocide Remembrance Day with Solemn Ceremony
The island of Kalymnos will solemnly commemorate the Pontic Greek Genocide Remembrance Day on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
The official doxology service will be held at Saint Nicholas Church in Pothia, officiated by His Eminence Metropolitan Paisios of Kalymnos, Leros and Astypalaia.
The keynote speech of the day will be delivered by retired educator Ioannis Belesis, who is expected to highlight the importance of historical remembrance and the preservation of the cultural heritage of Pontic Hellenism.
The ceremony will take place at Saint Nicholas Church due to ongoing maintenance works at the Holy Metropolitan Church of the Transfiguration of Christ (Metamorfosis Sotiros) in Kalymnos.
Pontic Greek Genocide Remembrance Day is one of the most significant commemorative observances for Hellenism worldwide, honoring the memory of the hundreds of thousands of Pontic Greeks who lost their lives.
