During the discussion of the second agenda item at the recent Municipal Council meeting of the Municipality of Kalymnians on February 17, 2026, Mayor Ioannis Mastrokoukos referred to the drum barrel currently placed at the port to regulate traffic.
Responding to questions raised by residents about why the drum barrel has not been removed and replaced with a more permanent structure, the Mayor explained that a traffic study for the port zone must be completed first. This study will allow traffic regulation measures to be implemented legally and in a structured manner, leading to the eventual replacement of the temporary barrier.
Through the approval of the Kalymnos Municipal Port Fund’s 2026 Technical Program by the Municipal Council, the port is expected to undergo a broader upgrade, aiming to improve functionality, safety, and overall traffic management.
