Former Mayor Roussos and Ex–Deputy Mayor Skoumpourdis raise alarm over Kalymnos–Mastichari ferry connection
At 10:00 a.m. on January 31, 2026, at the Cultural Center, former Mayor Georgios Roussos and former Deputy Mayor Agapitos Skoumpourdis called local media to highlight what they described as a pressing issue: the proper transport link between Kalymnos and Mastichari.
According to their statements, the current routing via Pserimos does not meet the needs of local construction workers, who arrive too late in Kos to get to work on time. They also criticized the short-term scheduling of sailings—planned only three days at a time—arguing that it prevents both visitors and residents from organizing travel in advance.
They said they have sent a letter on the matter to the Hellenic Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, but have not received a response. They are calling on government MPs to intervene, stressing that access to Kos’ international airport is essential to the island’s economy and that passenger service to and from Kalymnos must be improved as much as possible.
The two expressed hope that, following this press conference, the relevant authorities will cooperate to resolve the problem. After questions posed by Kalymnos Times journalist Eleftheria Tiliakou, they stated that as of today, neither the Mayor of Kalymnos nor the President of ANEK had been informed about the press conference or the letter sent to the ministry.
