In an interview on Action24 (“The Next Day”) with Serafeim Kotrotsos, SYRIZA–PS leader Sokratis Famellos said Greek society “wants unity and a progressive governing solution,” stressing he will not retreat into a “politics of isolation.”
He focused on developments related to the OPEKEPE scandal, arguing that the joint report by SYRIZA–PS and New Left supports the need for a preliminary parliamentary investigation into former ministers Voridis and Avgenakis. Famellos accused the ruling New Democracy of blocking proper scrutiny and claimed the inquiry process was incomplete.
On broader cooperation, he said SYRIZA–PS has been pursuing parliamentary alliances in recent months, citing joint initiatives including an agricultural policy bill proposal with PASOK and New Left. He insisted that progressive forces must cooperate to offer a viable governing alternative at the next elections, while warning that PASOK’s “autonomy” line does not match public demand—though he avoided pre-judging its party congress decisions.
Regarding a potential “Karystianou party,” he said early signals do not place it within the progressive camp and described several positions as conservative. He also emphasized that participation in Tempi-related rallies is about “truth and justice,” beyond party labels.
Finally, Famellos strongly criticized Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis over the state of public healthcare, rejecting any endorsement of harassment or intimidation but calling for accountability and democratic, orderly forms of protest.
