The South Aegean Regional Council unanimously supported the protection of property rights and legal certainty in response to the Council of State’s approval of a Presidential Decree limiting construction in settlements with fewer than 2,000 residents. Elli Chorianopoulou’s proposal, which gained broad support, calls for maintaining the legal status of existing properties while prohibiting future subdivisions.
Regional Governor Giorgos Hatzimarkos emphasized the severe social and economic injustice for citizens who legally owned and invested in these small properties for over 40 years. The region advocates a fair solution within the framework of legal security, urging respect for people who now face significant financial and personal loss through no fault of their own.
